APM Formed By People Frustrated Out Of APC – Amosun
Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday said the Allied People’s Movement (APM) is a child of necessity whose members were frustrated out of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amosun emphasised that the injustice done to his loyalists by the national leadership of APC compelled the APM members to converged and found a way forward for their political careers.
The governor said this while fielding questions from journalists during the flag off of his Senatorial campaign held in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The governor, who kick started the campaign from the palace of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo however said the APC will win the elections in Ogun State directly or indirectly.
According to him, those in the APM are also members of APC but were wronged by the leadership of the party which necessitated their defection.
Amosun who described the APM as a child of necessity said it would have been a great error not to allow the loyalists to ventilate their aspiration in another party.
He however described the movement as a good omen for President Muhammadu Buhari and himself who have been adopted as APM’s presidential and Ogun Central Senatorial candidates respectively.
“I am a member of APC but clearly, I told you before that some of our people that felt that they have not been fair to them, there is a form of injustice which all of you are aware of, for me, this is not what we prayed for, if anybody has told me that it is going to be like this, I will say ‘no’ but clearly as human being, God will show his way at any time to we ordinary mortals.
“When it happened, of course we have to shoulder on but we will not say people that have been hurt should not ventilate the hanger but in the final analysis, this is for the good of APC and I can say this anywhere because if we had not allowed them to go, they would have voted for another person and we will not even be in charge, we will not be in control.
“But now, we know that they are child of necessity, they are APC and everybody knows and I am happy they have adopted President Muhammadu Buhari and they have adopted me as well which is good news.
“You know what I know too that if they removed those in the mainstream of APC from APC, they don’t even have 10 per cent left clearly, if they say APC, it is APC that we are pushing, it is APC that belongs to us and for me APC is APC and that is why in our magnanimity, when they came on the eve of the Congress, people wanted me to say ‘these people are coming to spoil this party, they want to come and hijack this party’ but I said ‘it is not like that, let them come’.
“Imagine somebody coming on the eve of the Congress and all of them now, they are the owners of the party, without you talking, God is there.
“When they ran away for almost four years, did they remember there was a party called APC? If we have not run the affairs of the government well, will they have wanted to come to APC?
“All our former Governors are alive and they talk to me and even in all they say, I still show appreciation to what they did before we came, they laid the foundation that we have built upon, but nobody will take it away from us that we didn’t do our part, we did more than the expectation of our people to the grace of God and the benevolence of our people.
“Clearly, we are in APC, even those in APM, they are in APC and you know, it is frustration and we don’t want them to now go and vote for another person that is against the interest of what APC stands for and what President Muhammdu Buhari stands for.
“It is a win win scenario. Now we have ensured that President Muhammdu Buhari will still win, and in Ogun State, APC will still win directly or indirectly and you understand what I mean.’’
