APM Rejects Results, As APC Maintains Early Lead In Ogun Guber Race

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) said to be founded and funded by the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has rejected the results from Saturday Governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

The APM rejected the results of the governorship and state Assembly’s elections on the ground that its conduct was “marred with irregularities”.

At a press conference addressed on Sunday in Abeokuta, the state capital, the state chairman of APM, Chief Sarafa Tunji-Isola alleged that the exercise which started peacefully, was later disrupted by hoodlums and “unidentified uniformed men” at the point of collating the results in many local governments.

While demanding that INEC must stop further announcement of the governorship election results, Tunji-Isola also threatened that APM will explore all constitutional means, “to correct the miscarriage of justice” done to the party.

Meanwhile, the Governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun is maintaining a comfortable early lead in the guber and state House of Assembly election conducted last Saturday in the state.

In the results of the election released and announced so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abiodun is leading candidates of the other 40 political parties in 11 out of the 15 local governments.

In the results announced by the INEC collation officers at the Magbon headquarters of the commission, the political APM is coming second by leading in just three (03) local governments.

The political party which has former president Olusegun Obasanjo as its patron, African Democratic Congress (ADC) has however, won in just a local government; Imeko-Afon where its guber candidate hailed from.

Those local governments won by the APC governorship candidate included: Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu, Odeda, Ijebu North East, Sagamu, Abeokuta South, Ijebu East, Remo North, Ikenne, Obafemi-Owode and Ogun Waterside.

APM which has Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade as its governorship candidate has however, won in Ewekoro, Abeokuta North and Egbado South local governments.

As at the time of filling this report, INEC was still expecting its officials from five local governments of Ijebu North, Ipokia, Egbado South, Ado-Odo/Ota and Ifo local governments.
