Amala Meal Claims Two In Osun
Tragedy struck in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government area of Osun State Friday, when a meal of yam flour with stew claimed the lives of two people and left four others hospitalized.
It was reliably gathered that not long after the family of six took the amala meal, they started complaining of stomach upset.
The incident it was learnt had one, Mrs Kehinde Fasanya, a staff of Obokun Local Government, as its victim, while the identity of the second person could not be ascertained at press time.
The Commissioner of Health in Osun state, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, who confirmed the incident, however said necessary steps have been taken to unveil the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, there is palpable fear among residents on the safety of consumption of amala delicacy but the commissioner allayed such fears saying that the family members had been eating from the same yam flour in the past weeks.
Isamotu, who was at the hospital alongside the Director of Public Health, Dr Adepoju Gbenga, said experts have been deployed to the house where the family members ate the food and that samples would be taken to the laboratory for investigation.
