Agbaje Emerges Lagos PDP’s Governorship Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), governorship candidate in the 2015 election in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje on Friday emerged the party’s flag-bearer for next year’s gubernatorial election in Lagos.

At the PDP’s governorship primaries held at Yard 158, Oregun Road, Agbaje polled 1,100 votes to defeat his rival, Adedeji Doherty who polled 742 votes.

With the present development Agbaje will now slug it out with the All Progressives Congress, (APC), governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the governorship seat of Lagos in 2019.

Agbaje is battling for the governorship seat for the third time.

In 2015 governorship election, current governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode narrowly defeated Agbaje, but with a weaker PDP in Lagos, political pundits did not see Agbaje posing more threats to the APC candidate.

Agbaje, who also contested for the National Chairmanship of the PDP in 2017 was won by Uche Secondus.

Speaking on his chances of being lucky to rule the state the third time, he said the recent defections from the party in the state would not affect his chances of defeating his opponents in the 2019 national elections.

Irrespective of the crises in the Lagos PDP, he said, “It is the people of Lagos State that will decide. The issues in the party will not impact negatively on votes. Most Nigerians now vote for individuals rather than party.”

Agbaje, a pharmacists, popularly known as JK, was born March 2, 1957 in Lagos State to late Chief Julius Kosebinu (Banker) and Mrs. Margaret Olabisi (teacher).
