Court Adjourns Kanu’s N1bn Lawsuit Against FG, DSS, Others
The detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a fresh N1 billion lawsuit against the Federal Government and others.
Kanu, currently held by the Department of State Services (DSS), is seeking compensation for alleged violations of his fundamental rights during his detention.
The suit filed for Kanu by his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, alleges that the respondents infringed upon the IPOB leader’s right to legal representation by seizing and copying confidential legal documents brought to him by his lawyers at the detention facility.
It also claims that the DSS prevented Kanu’s counsel from taking notes during consultations, hindering proper defence preparation.
During the court hearing on Monday, the suit was postponed due to the absence of Kanu’s lawyer.
Representatives for the Federal Government, AGF (Enoch Simon) and DSS (I. Awo) were present.
Simon noted that his clients had only received the hearing notice, not the full suit documents, and were in court out of respect for the law.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, presiding over the case, then rescheduled the hearing for March 4th and ordered that the complete suit documents be served on Kanu’s lawyer.
