National Council on Health, the Apex Policy decision making body in the health sector, Meeting, is scheduled to hold from Tuesday 19th – Friday, 22nd June 2018. The purpose of the National Council on Health meeting was to discuss issues on health policy making nationwide.
The Theme of this year’s meeting is “The Second National Strategic Health Development Plan: Road Map for Achieving Universal Health Coverage.’
The sub themes are “Better Health for All Through revitalization of Primary Healthcare Service Delivery” “Human Resources for Health A Panacea to Overall Health Care Delivery System of Nation”, “Public Health Emergencies: Preparedness and Response” as well as “Predictable Financing and Risk Protection for Health”.
The Technical Session which is on-going has as participants the Permanent Secretaries of States Ministries of Health and their Directors of Health Planning Research and Statistics from the 36 States of the Federation and Abuja.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health (FHOH), Dr. Clement Uwaifo represented by the Director, Health Planning Research and Statistics, (FMOH), Dr. Emmanuel Meribole said that the participants were expected to deliberate on issues that would be presented to the Hon. Ministers of Health and the Commissioners of Health for approval during the main Council Meeting on Thursday June 21, 2018
In his welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Kano State, Dr. Shehu Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, said that Kano State Government had spent over N6 Billion Naira on health care services in the state in past three years.
He said Universal Health Coverage was the only sure way to guarantee accessibility of quality health care services to the most vulnerable populace in Nigeria.
“As you deliberate in the next two days, I urge you to come up with quality memoranda that would help in taking decisions while formulating policies that would improve and take the country’s health care system to the next level”, he said.
