2019: Group Holds Awareness Rally Over Voters Registration Deadline

National Electoral Commission, INEC, on August 17th, a non
governmental organization, Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, has
urged eligible voters in Ebonyi state who have not registered to do so
before the closure date of the exercise.
The group made the appeal at the weekend during voters sensitization
and awareness road walk it organized in collaboration with INEC in
Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
The road walk which took off at the state’s INEC head office along
Urban Planning Road Abakaliki witnessed large turn out of people who
matched along the major streets of the state capital calling on people
to go and register.
The Chief of Staff to Ebonyi State Government and  Principal of GDI,
Dr Offor Okorie, who led the rally disclosed the collective resolve of
the group to support the reelection bid of Governor David Umahi.
He said the group would remain committed to their mobilization
and sensitization of women, men and the youths to get their PVCs  and
why Ebonyians at all levels irrespective of Political party must
identify with good Governance.
“We have critically, examined the huge developmental strides of His
Excellency, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi in all sectors and at the
same time in the 13 LGAs and found out that through his unprecedented
strides, the governor has been able to justify the trust and vote
Ebonyians gave to him during 2015 governorship election.
“This reason, among many others, coupled with our objective of
identifying with good Governance, was why we matched in solidarity for
the governor to ensure that come 2019, the present good Governance
Ebonyians are witnessing and enjoying today will be authoritatively be
sustained through our PVC and vote of continuity for Governor David
Nweze Umahi”, Okorie said.
Okorie also appreciated the support of the GDI Youth Wing towards
Governor Umahi’s re-election bid and encouraged them to continue to do
their sensitization against all odds to ensure smooth re-election of
Umahi come 2019.
Chairman of Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, Hon. Francis Ene,
while addressing the participants at the end of the rally enjoined
them to carry the campaign to all the nooks and crannies of the state
to ensure every eligible Ebonyian get registered before the closure
date.
Ene who said GDI is a non governmental organization that promotes good
governance, explained that they embarked on the voters sensitization
and awareness rally to let the public know that unless they get their
voters cards and vote during elections they cannot enthrone good
governance.
He disclosed that the group is in support of governor David Umahi’s
reelection because his administration according to him, has brought
good governance to the people of the state.
