Zitadel Medicals Performs First Brain Surgery
Zitadel Medicals and Diagnostics Limited, Abuja has performed its first brain surgery in partnership with Brain And Spine Surgery (BASS) consortium with an all Nigerians team.
The Chairman and CEO, Mr Nik C. Odinuwe, made the disclosure to a select journalists, stating that the hospital has developed the capacity and know-how with its team of surgeons to conduct safe and cost-effective neurosurgery.
According to him, “the facility can effectively operate on any kind of neurosurgery; we just had a spinal surgery three weeks ago in Abuja and another at the Port Harcourt facility on Thursday and about two months ago too.”
“A 68-year-old woman came in for the free neurosurgical consultation and we discovered that her condition was bad that she needed an immediate surgery. The surgery was successful and her expensive Indian medical trip cancelled”, he added.
Odinuwe stressed that all these breakthroughs testify to innovation and professionalism in Zitadel, adding that it is one of his dreams for the country to reduce medical tourism by Nigerians to the barest minimum.
The Chairman said that the burden of structural brain and spinal illness requiring surgical intervention is on the rise in the country, maintaining that Zitadel would continue to deploy frontline technology to tackle this problem and others.
“We hope to do our best to bring respite to patients through an effective, but careful use of both human and material resources at our disposal,” he said.
Corroborating Odinuwe’s statement, one of the surgeon, said that the hospital is equipped with new and adequate modern equipment to handle any surgical procedure.
