The Zamfara State Government has presented appointment letters to 121 young and elderly women in the state as part of its women empowerment programme.
Presenting the appointment letters in Gusau on Monday, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed, said the gesture was part of the state government’s efforts to provide an enabling environment for the womenfolk to earn an income.
Mohammed then called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity to be more relevant in the society.
The state’s Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lawal Abubakar, who was at the venue of the letters presentation, commended the state government for the gesture.
The chairman said this was the first batch of people to receive appointment under the programme, adding that it was based on the women’s significant contributions toward the development of the state and urged them to keep it up.
Hajiya Ai Malu who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to Governor Abdulaziz Yari for the opportunity given them.
Malu promised their continued support t0 government policies on women and development.
