Youths Caution FG, States On The Spread Of Monkey Pox
Following the outbreak of monkey pox in some parts of Nigeria, the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) has advised stakeholders to gear up to their responsibilities in order to control the spread of the disease.
The association’s national secretary, Olawale Ajao, in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday, implored federal and state health ministries, NAFDAC and NGOs to embark on intensive sensitization programmes for food sellers, bush meat sellers and the general public to curtail the spread of monkey pox.
“It would be better if bush meat sellers can stop selling monkeys for now as one of the measures to control the outbreak.
“If that cannot be done, food sellers and members of the public need to be sensitized so that whenever they are cooking bush meat, it would be cooked thoroughly to ensure that it is safe for consumption.
“Another thing is that, proper washing of hands and the use of sanitizer should be encouraged,” it added.
According to the group, federal and state ministries of health must be proactive so that facilities would be ready available for people who may need to be quarantined in various states.
It advised that regular hygiene should always be maintained by everybody to ensure well being.
