Yoruba Youths To Northern Elders: Don’t Set Nigeria On Fire
Yoruba youths operating under the aegis of Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) has appealed to the Northern Elders’ Forum to be cautious in the way it handles the raging quit notice issued to the Igbos in order for the issue not to degenerate.
The youths who reacted to a statement credited to a chieftain of Northern Elders Forum, Prof Ango Abdullahi who reportedly backed the Coalition of Northern Youths on their statement that Igbos should vacate the north within three months, said they received with dismay, the contemptible statement coming from an elderly person who is supposed to be a peace maker.
In a statement by its President, Olalekan Hammed in Ibadan noted that the Arewa leader had dragged “Yorubas to their fissure when he argued that it was the Northern Nigeria groundnut money that was used to develop the Southern region.
They reminded Prof Abdullahi that the Western Region was developed with the money generated from available resources.
“We will try to remind Prof Abdullahi that Western region, which is now part of the Southern region, was developed with the money generated from cocoa, rubber, cashew and many other cash crops and the Western region became most economically viable when compared with other regions.”
