World Water Day: UNICEF Donates N220m For Water, Sanitation  Projects In Kebbi

As the world marks the 2017 World Water Day yesterday , UNICEF will be contributing N220 million for a two year water and sanitation project in Kebbi State .

The UNICEF Chief , Sokoto Zonal Office , Mohammad Mohiuddin who is in charge of Sokoto , Kebbi and Zamfara made this known to journalists though a Press Release as part of activities to mark World Water Day.

The statement explains that the water and sanitation project  in Kebbi will be supported by EU which will focus on addressing the poor coverage of water and sanitation at the priority primary health centers to ensure sustained access to water and sanitation facilities .

The statement further says investment in water and sanitation provision in health facilities will also be complemented with sensitization of health facility staff on promoting hand washing at critical times so as to incorporate this in their routine heath talks .

In another development, the Kebbi State Government has expended over 1 billion naira in improving supply of water in the state through the rehabilitation of Dukku  Water Works and sinking of boreholes including 10 solar boreholes across the state.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Water Resources , Alhaji Mohammed Musa Kamba who represented the Commissioner for Water Resources , Architect Bala Sani Kangiwa disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen during World Water Day media briefing organised by UNICEF in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Ministry of Water Resources , Kebbi State .

Highlights of the World Water Day activities in Kebbi includes field visit by the media to Ubandawaki village in Kalgo local government, visit to Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN ) and media briefing on the day.
