Woman Remanded In Prison Over Car Theft In Osun
Worship at alert and never underrate women’s ability to steal valuables as a woman has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry car at the premises of a church in Osun State.
The middle aged woman, Victoria Odion, (32) was remanded in Ile-Ife prison by an Osun State Magistrates’ Court for conspiring with others at large to steal the car at the premises of All Souls Chapel Church, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on March 4, 2018 at about 11:30 am while the owner of the vehicle was attending morning service.
Presenting his case before Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode at an Ile-Ife magistrates court, Osanyintuyi noted that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit stealing.
He added that Victoria stole one Toyota Muzle Camry with registration No: EQ 299 ABJ, colour Grey, valued N3.8m and Samsung phone costs N26,000, total valued N3, 826m, property of one Dr Fagbohun Babatope.
According to him, the offence contravened sections 383, 390 (9) and 515 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused who agreed to submit to trial in the court however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against her.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail of the accused in liberal term with the plea that the accused would not jump bail, but produce credible sureties.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode refused the bail of the accused, but rather told the Defence Counsel to come with formal application for the consideration of the bail.
Ijiyode therefore ordered for the remand of Victoria Odion in prison custody pending the hearing of the application as he adjourned the case until June 20, for hearing.
