Pregnant Woman Arraigned Over Alleged N5m Fraud
A 33-year-old pregnant woman, Yemisi Adekoya was on Thursday at an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged N5m fraud.
She however pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and fraud levelled against her after she had agreed to be tried by the court.
The Prosecutor, Abdullahi Emmanuel, an Inspector of police told the court that the accused person committed the offence between 2014 to 2019 at Atinuke Street, Igboya Street, Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel said that the suspect stole the sum of N5 million, property of ASIEA Micro Finance Bank.
He added that she converted the sum of N5m, being the staff of ASIEA Micro Finance Bank which she collected from their customers for remittance to the bank account.
According to him, the offence contravened sections 383, 387 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mrs Bukola Olayinka, applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal term pledging that his client would not jump bail, but produce reliable sureties.
Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi granted the bail of the accused in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owolawi stated that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction among other terms as he adjourned until May 27, for hearing.
