Why Ogun Is Hosting The World Through Drums Festival
All is now set for the third edition of the African Drums Festival, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, between April 19 to 21, 2018.
The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who stated this in Abeokuta, while addressing a press conference as part of activities lined up for the event, said the festival, with the theme, ‘’Reviving Our Culture in Drums’’, was a unique platform aimed at bringing Africans together through drums to showcase the continent’s rich culture.
 
 ‘’Third week in April of every year, all roads will be leading to Abeokuta for African Drums Festival along with exciting activities, such as road shows, conferences, workshops and exhibitions ‘’. Amosun said.
 
       Giving highlight of the programme ,the Chairman, 2018 African Drums Festival Organising Committee and the State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, said the  opening ceremony  would hold on Thursday, April 19, with  a press conference and a workshop, tagged  ‘’Drumming for Advancement” to be convened by Prof. Wole Soyinka at the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex, Abeokuta on Friday, April 20, while the grand finale holds on Saturday, April 21, where  traditional rulers from the Eastern and Northern  parts of the country are expected to attend.
 
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Bashorun Olumuyiwa Oladipo, said the third edition of the festival  would  be  bigger and better than the previous.
