Visionscape Injects N18b Into Cleaner Lagos Initiative
Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, a leading waste management firm on Wednesday said it has invested $50 million (N18.05 billion) in the waste management system in the first phase of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative.
Chief Operations Officer, Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, Thomas Forgacs, who revealed this during a Media facility tour of the Visionscape Transfer Loading Station, Tapa, on Lagos Island, said the company has received a consignment of a brand new 100 vehicle waste management fleet embedded with cutting-edge technology.
He explained that the company invested about $50 million (N18.05 billion) into the waste management system in the first phase, adding that “we are not here to laugh, but to invest.
“The addition to the waste management fleet is in line with our commitment to provide integrated waste management services, using state-of-the-art equipment and innovative solutions to help transform megacities.
“In the last six months, we have surveyed all of Lagos State and collated vital data to aid operations. We, therefore, understand population density of the communities and areas that will be serviced, even up to the number of streets and households across the State. This preliminary assessment has aided us to know the amount of waste that will be generated in any particular location.”
He added that Visionscape would kick off the next phase of the CLI next week in Agege as machinery would be deployed in full force to the area, adding that apart from this, the body had been engaged in cleaning about 1,000 black spots within the metropolis and carted away 80,000 tons of refuse, with the deployment of 600 galvanised waste bins.
He also revealed that the company would be deploying one million plastic bins across the state next week, adding that sanitation sweepers would be deployed to various parts of the state as from Thursday (tomorrow).
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Abiodun Bamgboye said that the government was determined to ensure that the CLI succeeded as it had not relented in creating awareness about the environmental initiative.
The CLI was established to address, enforce and regulate the challenges in the solid waste management systems within Lagos State. The initiative is focused on improving the environment to make it cleaner, safer and healthier for all Lagos State residents, as well as developing operational efficiency. Visionscape is currently in a public-private partnership with the Lagos State Government, set to provide management services for the CLI, under the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
