Violence Mars Oyo PDP LG Congresses

Efforts of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at ensuring peaceful convention at its December 9, 2017 elective convention may have been rocked by crisis as the local government Congresses held across Oyo state present a picture of the crisis ahead of both the party’s (PDP) state Congress (November 4, 2017) and December 9, 2017 national convention.

Reports of the Congress in some local government areas suggest that while harmonisation and consensus had been reached ahead of the Congresses others were marred by inconclusive outcome and some with violence and injuries.
In the following LGAs the Congress held amidst consensus and harmonisation of delegate list, Ogbomoso North, Ibarapa North, Ogo-Oluwa, Irepo, Ogbomoso South, Kajola, Atisbo, Ibadan North West, and Oyo East. Others are Saki East, Akinyele, Ibadan North as well as Egbeda
In Ibadan North East, factional crisis marred the Congress with violence though the crisis appeared to have been resolved.
In Oluyole LG, the Congress could not hold owing violence. In Iwajowa LG different caucuses held up the Congress for several hours before agreement was reached. In Itesiwaju consensus could not be reached as the different caucuses stock to their positions.
In Oyo West the Congress held after the initial crisis was resolved.
The Congress in Lagelu, Ibarapa East and Afijio appear inconclusive.
