Uproar In Ekiti Over Dumping Of Old Woman’s Corpse In River
The residents of Ekiti were on Sunday disturbed by the discovery of the corpse of a yet-to-be identified woman in Ureje River in Ajilosun area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
It was further learnt that a young man allegedly dumped the dead body in the river at around 6 AM on Sunday but was arrested by the police while trying to flee from the scene.
The residents of the community were said to have assisted the police in effecting the arrest of the suspected killer of the old woman.
Many sympathizers that gathered around the bridge, where the corpse of the woman was found rained curses on the suspected to register their displeasure at the heinous act.
The dead body as of  the time the corpse was discovered it was clad in red blouse and light-brown white wrapper.
Passers by who gathered at the river side taking the picture of the floating dead body decried the killing.
One of the residents who craved anonymity said , “the suspect was seen with the woman in the river as early as 6 AM in the morning and he was accosted and apprehended by people around.
” He was about to be lynched but for the timely arrival of the policemen who rescued and took him away to their station  saved him from being killed, ”  he said.
Another source said , “the young man, believed to be in his early twenties was caught in the act in the river where he killed the woman and was given a hot chase by the people.
” He was running towards the left side of the river and the people alongside policemen went after him before he was apprehended at the other end of the river”.
Some of the residents who spoke to our correspondent on the incident said the old woman must have been a victim of ritual killing.
Men of the Ekiti State Fire Service came to remove the body from the river around 8.35am
