Tinubu Commissions Katampe District Road Network
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has officially commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard) and Important Local Street 5 (ILS5) within the Katampe District of Abuja.
The strategic 3.9-kilometer dual carriageway, executed by CGC Nigeria Limited in a record seven months, completely opens up the Katampe and Mabushi axes, connecting them directly to major arterial channels including Yemi Osinbajo Way and Wole Soyinka Way, which feed straight into the Outer Northern (Murtala Mohammed/Kubwa) Expressway.
In a keynote address delivered on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu described the newly completed CN2 road as more than an engineering achievement, stressing that it has restored hope in the current administration’s capacity to fulfill its promises to the nation.
The President pointed out that the road was built in accordance with the best engineering standards, including streetlights, adding that it has illuminated the Katampe District and systematically dismantled criminal hideouts, while also helping to revive Abuja’s vibrant night life.
“We have installed solar street lights, and today Katampe is bright at night. Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing. This is exactly what good governance delivers: security, mobility, and dignity. A road like CN2 is more than just concrete—it represents hope. It proves to every Nigerian that the government can deliver,” President Tinubu stated.
He commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for working round the clock to deliver results, rather than giving excuses, stressing that the Minister had transformed Abuja into a world-class capital.
He added that the Minister had also delivered everything from new boulevards on previously abandoned routes to essential water projects and judicial housing, noting that the Minister has not disappointed in his assignment.
“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. Barrister Wike, you have not disappointed. From transforming abandoned roads into new boulevards, to delivering water projects and judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses; you give results”, President Tinubu stated.
He urged residents to safeguard the new road project, pay their taxes and ground rents, and strictly warned against transforming modern pedestrian walkways into marketplaces or vandalizing solar installations.
Speaking earlier, the FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike, highlighted the immediate economic impact of the project, noting that its introduction had already triggered an unprecedented wave of private estate and commercial construction as well as created jobs for labourers and engineers.
The Minister, while thanking President Tinubu for the opportunity to spearhead Abuja’s infrastructural transformation and for his consistent support, also praised the synergy within his team, including the Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, and the FCDA engineering team. He further extended his appreciation to the National Assembly, revealing that the chairmen of the oversight committees have acted as development partners rather than bureaucratic obstacles.
Barr. Wike promised FCT residents that the administration’s momentum will not slow down, announcing that the team will move to Karu on Monday to commission a massive water supply project for the FCT’s satellite towns.
The Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mahmoud, in her vote of thanks, acknowledged the unwavering support of community leaders, regional traditional rulers, and security agencies whose collective cooperation guaranteed a hitch-free delivery of the project.
Presenting the project overview, FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, stated that the FCT Administration awarded the contract in November 2025 as part of its mandate to sustain infrastructure development in the FCT. He said the road included the full scope development of Collector Road CN2, a dual carriageway with 2 lanes, a parking lane, separated by a 2 meter median making it a total of 6 lanes, 3 on each side. He said the total length of the road was about 3.9 kilometers, and came with engineering infrastructure such as underground storm water drainage system, water pipes, distribution network, sewer network, telecommunication ducts, solar street lighting, walkways and green verges.
The Executive Secretary pointed out that in the course of the project, many Nigerians had been employed directly and indirectly, with the project opening up the area for the rapid development of Katampe District in addition to reducing travel time, improving on security, and facilitating interconnectivity between Katampe District and other districts such as Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama, and the adjoining areas.
The contractor, China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC), represented by its Managing Director, Mr Lv Haiming, expressed gratitude to the President, the FCT Minister, and the local people for their cooperation and support. He said that the project was awarded seven months before, and that they were both proud that they had delivered according to their commitment, and also proud to be associated with the FCT Minister. Mr Haiming revealed that in the course of executing the project, the company kept “prioritizing hiring local workers, training young Nigerians, and equipping them with valuable, practical engineering skills.”
