N4b Arrears: TASCE Workers Report Amosun To Buhari

The employees of Tai Solarin College of Education, (TASCE), Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order the state government-led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun to pay them their salary arrears.

   In a Save Our Soul (S.O.S) letter to Buhari, signed by its Chairman Coalition staff Union, Mr. Daniel Aborisade complained that the state government was owing them N4billion Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary and Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure arrears from July 2009 to October 2018.

Aborisade said the money, is being owed them by both the administrations of Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, and all efforts of the staff to pay them the money was proved abortive as the present administration was not willing to pay the outstanding arrears of the employees.

They called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tell the Amosun-led administration to use the last tranche of the Paris Club refund to pay them their entitlements, claiming that the college had never benefited from the payment of the previous tranches.

The workers also asked the state government to restore their salary to 100 percent with effect from October, 2018, noting that this action was inimical ‎to the incoming administration as it may deem it fit not pay the arrears as and when due.

The letter read in part, “We were further subjected to frustration and untold hardship by the government due to the non-payment of salary for 14 consecutive months, making it difficult to feed ourselves, our immediate family and cope with the present economy imbalances.”

“After much persuasion and appeals to the government vis-a-vis the appointment of a new provost for the college, the state government resumed the payment of half salary with effect from August, 2016 to July 2017 and October 2017.

“Between August, 2017 to the time of writing this report, the percentage of the monthly salary paid workers in the college has increased to 60 percent (September 2017 to September 2018).”

“Between May 2011 and October 2018, the college has lost 45 employees. Some of them died because of little medical expenses that could not be paid at hospital.”

The staff and management of the college urged the President Muhammadu Buhari to direct and give the Ogun State government-led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun a marching order to pay their salary to avoid untimely death of the staffer of the college.
