Police Arrest Man, 52 For Attempting To Swindle Ogun CP

Operatives of the Ogun state police command have arrested one Tayo Ogunmola who attempted to swindle the command’s Commissioner of Police, Bashing Makama of an undisclosed sum of money.

The 52-year old fraudster allegedly put a phone call across to the Makama’s mobile line wherein he pretended to be an old herbalist who mistakenly sent the PIN number of a recharge card to the telephone number of the CP, but pleaded that the said recharge card PIN be sent back to him.

A statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said the CP, who was already familiar with such antics of the fraudsters, played along with Ogunmola, while he ordered men of Intelligence Response Team of the Ogun command to technically track down and apprehend him.

“At a stage, the suspect who was not aware that he is being trailed, was presenting himself to the CP as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) who was ready to assist the CP only if he can part with certain amount of money not knowing that the person he was discussing with is a serving Commissioner of Police”.

According to Oyeyemi, luck however, ran against the fraudster when the police’s Intelligence Response Team traced him to his hideout at Araromi Phase II axis of Ilogbo in Sangi-Ota area of Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state where he was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed to being a fraudster who had defrauded many unsuspecting members of the public of large sum of money running to millions of naira out of which he built the house he is living in presently”.

PPRO however, said that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the monitoring team to properly investigate the suspect with the view of arresting other members of his gang and consequently charge them to court.
