Suspected Herdsmen Abducts Cleric, 2 Others In Osun
Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Sunday night allegedly kidnapped a clergyman, Rev Kayode Akande of the Methodist Church of Nigeria and two other church members at Telemu area, along Iwo-Osogbo road, in Osun State.
The cleric alongside seven other members were said to be returning from a church meeting at Ile Ogbo, another town within the axis when the incident happened.
A member of the church while confirming the incident said two church leaders who were taken away with the pastor were one Mr, Omodunbi and Mr. Bankole, who is said to be an engineer.
According to him, the victims along others were returning to Osogbo from Ile Ogbo when suspected Fulani herdsmen stopped their vehicle, ransacked them, asked others to lie flat on the road, picked the three men and led them into the bush.
“They went for a meeting in respect of Father’s Day and they were on their way back to Osogbo when they were abducted” he said.
Meanwhile, the Bishop, Methodist Church, Osogbo diocese, Rt. Revd. Amos Ogunrinde has said that there has not been any demand for ransom from the kidnappers.
Ogunrinde, in a telephone conversation Monday said the church had contacted all the security agencies in the state.
The cleric, however, expressed optimism on the quick return of his members from the den of the kidnappers.
“We are fervently praying for their quick return, at least, that is the first thing, we have also contacted the Commissioner of Police, the Director of DSS, and other security agencies who have swung to action to free them.
“At present, nobody has reached out to us for ransom, we are believing in God for their safe return “, he said.
