Supreme Court Declares Makinde Governor Of Oyo State
Governor Seyi Makinde has been declared the winner of March 9th governorship election in Oyo State by the Supreme Court.
The judgement of the apex court was delivered by Justice Ukaego Mary Peter-Odili CFR who presided over the Oyo State Election Appeal at the Supreme Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Makinde won the March 9 election but the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Adebayo Adelabu challenged the victory at the election petition tribunal.
Adelabu lost at the tribunal but went ahead to file an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
There was glimmer of hope for Adelabu when the Court ruled that there were grounds for his appeal but the court failed to out rightly declare him the winner.
Both parties took the matter to the Supreme Court which ruled Wednesday that Makinde was the validly elected Governor of the state putting a final stop to the ambition of Adelabu.
