Super Falcons Move Up To 32nd Position In Latest FIFA World Ranking
Super Falcons of Nigeria moved up from 40th to 32nd in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola women’s world ranking released on Friday.
The latest ranking was published on FIFA’s official website.
Randy Waldrum-Falcons were the lowest-ranked team in their group that had Australia, Olympic champions Canada and the debutant Republic of Ireland.
But the Nigerian senior women’s team finished second behind Australia and reached the round of 16.
Unfortunately, they could not go beyond the first knockout stage, after losing 4-2 on penalties to an England side who had a player sent off.
The game was decided via a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of football ended goalless.
After their impressive performance, the Falcons were ranked 10th best team of the tournament.
Africa’s three other representatives, South Africa, Morocco and Zambia also moved up in the latest ranking.
African women’s champions South Africa climbed nine places to 45th, Morocco jumped 14 places to 58th while Zambia moved to 69th.
Meanwhile Sweden, who finished third, sit at the top of the for the first time ever, dethroning the USA who dropped to third.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola women’s world ranking will be published on 15 December 2023.
