Slain Federal Lawmaker: Police Arrest 5 More Suspects

 

The Nigeria Police on Friday said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of federal lawmaker, Hon. Olatoye Temitope popularly Sugar who was killed during presidential and National Assembly elections in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba, on Thursday confirmed the arrest of four more suspects in connection with the murder of the lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency.

He noted that one of them was shot while trying to evade arrest.

The suspects, according to Mba, were: the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lafisoye Akinmoyede, 54; Alhaji Rafiu Adebayo, 68; Taofeek Adebayo a.k.a Ejo, 39, Alhaji Rasheed Oladele, 66 and Mutiu Oguntola, 28.

Oguntola who was apprehended on Thursday, was reported to have sustained bullet injuries in the shoulder blade and groin while trying to escape.

According to Mba, he was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was being stabilised.

The Police spokesman said ,‘’There are now five suspects in the custody of the Oyo State Police Command ‘’, saying the suspects may be transferred to Abuja next week.

Sugar was shot in the face by unknown gunmen on March 9 in Lalupon and was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) where he died at the Intensive Centre Unit while receiving treatment.
