LASG Plans 5-year Roadmap For Agric Sector
Lagos State Government says it will on Wednesday hold an Agricultural Stakeholders’ Engagement that would address the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector as well as prospect into the future with a view to developing a 5-year road plan for the agricultural sector.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal who disclosed this in Lagos noted that the need to hold the Engagement was informed by the need to sustain the existing efforts of the State Government in the Agricultural Sector in ensuring food security bearing in mind the need to make Lagos State a 21st Century economy that works in line the THEMES Developmental Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu’s government.
Lawal noted that ideas, technology and innovations that will take into consideration the day-to-day and evolving realities of farming, agricultural production and food consumption becomes imperative hence the need to hold the Engagement.
He added that the Engagement would also be an avenue to connect and empower the next generation of agricultural change-makers, Farmers’ Associations, Medium and Small scale players in the sector.
“As Lagos State becomes a 21st Century Economy, there is the need to sustain existing efforts of the Agricultural Sector in ensuring food security and also introduce new solutions. Idea, technology and innovations that will take into account the day-to-day and evolving realities of farming, agricultural production and food consumption.
The introduction of these new solutions, ideas and innovations is expected to transform today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities in the Agricultural sector.
These have necessitated the need to look carefully into strategies to increase agricultural production in the State towards feeding the teaming population thus the Ministry decided to organize the Stakeholders’ Engagement,” the Commissioner averred.
He pointed out that the Engagement is also expected to come up with ideas on how to facilitate the rapid development of the agro-economy of the State particularly in the areas where the State has comparative and competitive advantage since the idea of making the State a 21st century economy requires a reasonable level of food security.
The Commissioner added that the Engagement will draw participants from multilateral organizations like the World Bank, FAO, ECOWAS, UK-DFID, USAID, CTA, IITA and Africa Rice among others; multilateral corporations like Olam, Dizzengof, Meatco, Elephant Group among others; prominent agro-preneurs; academia, special interest groups; government agencies like the DAWN others; embassies and commercial/development institutions.
The Engagement which will serves as an interface for all Stakeholders in the Agricultural Sector comes up on Wednesday, 11th September 2019, at the Sourjoner by Genesis Hotel G.R.A Ikeja.
