Rivers donates patrol vehicles to FRSC

In demonstration of the ongoing partnership drive by the leadership of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Rivers State Government has donated two patrol vehicles to the Rivers State Sector Command of the FRSC with a promise to do more.
This was disclosed by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyeson Wike, while receiving the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, in his office.
In a press release by Bisi Kazeem, the Head, Media Relations and Strategy of the FRSC, Wike commended the staff of the sector command in Port Harcourt for their immense contributions to the socio-economic development of the state, especially in the area of effective traffic management and security.
He promised that his government will continue to partner with the Corps to quicken its development programmes.
The Governor noted that road safety is a shared responsibility and every responsible government must show sincere commitment to safety and security of its people.
He expressed his determination to rid the state of fake driver’s licence and number plates through a task force that would soon be set up by the state government.
In his remarks, the Corps Marshal thanked the Governor for the gestures and noted that FRSC alone cannot address the challenges of road safety without support from relevant stakeholders.
Oyeyemi commended Wike for his interest in matters of road safety and assured him that the donated vehicles would immediately be deployed for operational activities in the state.
Oyeyemi further noted that despite the best efforts of the Federal Government in providing logistics support for the FRSC, it would continue to rely on the support and partnership of other relevant stakeholders to realise the goals of making the nation’s roads safer.
He pointed out that as part of the Corps’ commitment to the success of the partnership initiatives, the FRSC will be willing to train the personnel of the state traffic management agency to prepare them adequately to complement the efforts of the Corps in traffic management particularly in the urban areas.
The Corps Marshal later addressed staff of Zone RS6 Headquarters and Rivers State Sector Command Port Harcourt, where he tasked them on the need for improved productivity and transparency in service delivery.
He warned against acts of indiscipline and stressed the need for staff to take their safety serious whenever on patrol and rescue operations.
Oyeyemi restated the commitment of his Management to addressing the welfare needs of staff.
He implored them to avoid indolence and remain active in whatever assignment they were given.
