Protest In Lafia Over Supreme Court Judgement On Governorship Election

The judgement of the Supreme Court that upheld the victory of Abdullahi Sule as Nasarawa State governor has triggered protests in Lafia, the state capital.

The Lafia-Jos highway linking Makurdi and other North East has been completely blocked as the protesters barricaded the only high linking other parts of the country, burning tyres along the road.

Banks, shops, and other business centres, as well as schools within the Lafia metropolis, have abruptly closed.

Residents in a panic called for the deployment of more security operatives to restore calm in the state.

It was gathered that the mob has been chanting war songs, alleging that the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court was induced by some prominent monarch some days ahead of the declaration.

The ongoing development has created panic about an imminent crisis in major parts of the state. Efforts to reach security agencies have been abortive at the time of filing this report.
