The men who took laws into their hands were said to have beaten the duo and set ablaze their place of abode which is a quadrangle where a billboard and a wired fence for electricity generating set is located.

An artisan who works in the area countered that they were not ritualists. The man named Eddie said that he had been working in the area since 1996 and that he occasionally sees a homeless young man at the place and the person looked deranged.

He noted that though the area is dangerous at night as passer-byes have been attacked in the past.

He said, “Those people taken away by police are not ritualists as I have seen a woman and a man sleep at the place. Last month, I even went to scatter the place to discourage people from sleeping in that place as it is dangerous. Police men should look into it as there are different public places even by the road used by mad people to live in.”

As events unfolded, mammoth crowd gathered around the expressway, hindering smooth vehicular movement.

It was learnt that three suspects believed to be ritualists were whisked away from the scene with Rapid Response Squad vehicles to prevent them from being lynched by aggrieved crowd.
