The students and members of staff of the Nigerian Tulip (Turkish) International College who were recently kidnapped in their school premises have been released.
The police said they rescued the three students and five staff of Nigeria Turkish International College, Isheri, Ogun State.
A police source who confirmed the release of the victims said they returned yesterday almost naked with no clothing.
He said, “The abductors dropped them in a bush beside NTIC. The mobile policemen on duty in the school brought them back to the premises in a tinted vehicle. And they have been taken to the hospital for comprehensive treatment. The school authorities had to arrange for proper care immediately after their release.”
The school’s Public Relations Officer, Cemal Yigit also confirmed the development, saying that parents and students were praising God for the safe return of the members of the NTIC family.
He said the Federal Government had also approved a large number of armed men to provide protection in and around the school while security measures have also been strengthened
The new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) , Zone 2, Kayode Aderanti, had earlier given the assurance while speaking with newsmen shortly after his visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his hill top residence in Abeokuta that the kidnapped students and staff of the Nigeria Turkish International School, Isheri, Ogun, would be released within 24 hours.
The eight students and staff of the Nigeria Turkish International College in Ogun were recently abducted from the school by unknown gunmen.
The top police officer said that he spoke with the leader of the search team shortly before his visit and that he got a positive response from him.
He denied rumours that the families of the victims had been paying ransom, insisting that “no ransom has been paid.’’
Aderanti commended the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, for putting in place an effective security system in the state.
He urged residents of Ogun to partner with the police to ensure that lives and property were safe and secured.
