Police Dismiss Inspector, 2 Others For Tear Gassing Civilians
For allegedly tear gassing civilians, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal on Sunday said it has dismissed three police officers, comprising of an inspector and two sergeants.
It was learnt that the police officers sprayed tear-gas on Mr. Ademuwagun Temitope Solomon which provoked severe asthmatic attack in him.
It was further learnt that the incident took place at Chinese town, Ojota area of Lagos state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Chike Oti, a Superintendent of Police in a press statement said the decision is in line with its promise to regularly update Lagosians about the activities of Lagos State Police command.
Oti said, the command have dismissed three police officers who were alleged to be in connection of the incident that took place at Chinese town, Ojota area of Lagos State.
He said, the officers whose names and service numbers are 220957 Inspector Momoh Sulaiman, 429659 Sgt. Emmanuel Monday and 434246 Sgt. Adamu Usman, were tried in an orderly room which commenced yesterday on June 9, 2018 were found guilty as charged were dismissed and de-kitted accordingly.
Oti added that, the dismissal proceeding of Inspector Momoh Sulaiman has been forwarded to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) Zone 2 for approval.
“Similarly the Command wishes to use this medium to release its half year disciplinary record for the period spanning from January to June, 2018”.
He added that the officers were tried in a properly constituted orderly room and were found guilty of various offences against discipline which earned them appropriate punishments depending on the charges against them.
Commenting on the development, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi said this would serve as a deterrent to other police officers wishing to toe the path of infamy, noting that the Nigeria Police under the watch of the Inspector General Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, have no room for indiscipline.
