Twitter User Chude Is Being Investigated For Cyberstalking, Says Police

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of one Chude Franklin Nnamdi over cyberstalking.

Nnamdi was arrested in Anambra State on Saturday.

He alleged that the Anambra governors’ political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was involved in the rigging of the House of Assembly election in a tweet.

He claimed that governor Chukwuma Soludo was instrumental in the rigging, adding that some thugs carted away ballot boxes.

The police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that Nnamdi is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.

Adejobi stated that Nnamdi is being investigated for cyberstalking in response to a complaint received via a petition about his actions on social media, which violate Nigerian constitutional provisions.

“He is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja for cyberstalking pursuant to a complaint received via a petition about his activities on social media, which contravenes the provision of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and other criminal laws,” Adejobi said.

He added that a case has been established against Nnamdi and that the case file has been forwarded to the Force Legal Department for further action.

The Nigeria Police Force, however, urges members of the public to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the law and be aware of the penalties for violating them, most especially cybercrime laws with the new trends in the digital media space.
