Police Arraign 2 Men For Giving False Information
Two men, Obimma Ebele, 48 and Okonkwo Chuks Michael 56, were on Tuesday, arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for giving false information to police.
Both Ebele and Michael were arraigned by the men of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (ForceCIID) Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, before Magistrate A. Aro-Lambo, on charges bordering on conspiracy, giving false information and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
The defendants and others now at large, according to the police in charge marked S/06/2019, on November 12, 2018, conspired among themselves and made false and malicious allegations against the trio of Fabian Onukogu, Ikechukuu Aniche, Augustine Amazu and some other people who are members of Lagos Chapter of Ifite Orafite Progressive Union (I.O.P.U.).
The prosecutor, Mr. Morufu Animashaun, the Legal Officer of General Investigation of ForceCIID, while arraigning the defendants, who are members of a parallel body of the Union, told the court that the duo came to his office with series of criminal allegations against the members of the Union.
He further told the court that upon the defendants’ petition and allegations, members of the Union were invited for interrogation and that in the course of the investigation, it was discovered that all the allegations made by the two defendants were purely and there was no iota of truth in all they told the police.
Animashaun further told the court that the two defendants upon discovered that the police had been able to discover that the allegations against the Union’s members were, confessed to the police that they wrote the petition in order to take over the Union from its current leadership.
The prosecutor told the court that following the confession of the defendants, they were arrested and brought before the court on charges bordering on conspiracy, giving false information and conduct likely to breach public peace.
Animashaun told the court that the offences committed are contrary and punishable under sections 95(b) and 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Consequently, their lawyers, Mr. B. N. Ajagbo and N. Ibeh, urged the court to grant their clients bail in the most liberal terms.

Thomas prosecutor, while told the court that he was not opposing admitting bail to the defendants, urged the court to made the bail term with the conditions that will ensure their attendance in court for trial.
Ruling on the bail application, Magistrate Aro-Lambo, admitted them to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each.
Aro-Lambo also ordered that the sureties must show to court evidence of three years tax paid to Lagos State Government, means of livelihood, utility bills and have the bail terms verified by the prosecutor.
The magistrate while adjourning the matter till March 14, for trial, ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
Charges against the defendants reads: “That you Obimma Ebola ‘m’. Okonkwo Chuks Michael ‘m’ and others at large the 12th November. 2018 at about 1200hrs at Force Criminal intelligence Investigation Department (FCIID) Annex Alagbon Close, lkoyi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to bring false accusation against Fabian Onukogu ‘m’, Ikechukuu Aniche ‘m‘, Augustine Amazu ‘m other members of Ifite Orafite Progressive Union a.k.a (IOPU), Lagos Chapter and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 93¢ 01 the Comma! Law of Lagos Stats, 2015
Another count reads: “that you Obimma Ebele ‘m’, Okonkwo Chuks Michael ‘m’ and others at large the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did knowingly make false statement to Police Office with intent to make them to file charges against Fabian Onukogu ‘m’. lkechukuu Amche ‘m’. Augustine Amazu ‘m and others members of the Ifite Orafite Progressive Union (I.0.P.U), Lagos Chapter and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 168(d) the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
And the third count reads: “that you Obimma Ebela ‘m’, Okonkwo Chuks Michael ‘m’ and others at large the same date. time and place In the aforesaid Magisterial District did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by maliciously make fictitious allegation against Fabian Onukogu ‘m‘, Ikechukwu Aniche ‘m’ Augustine Amazu m and others members of Ifite Orafite Progressive Union (I O RU). La! Chapter and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(6) 0! Criminal Law a! Lagos State, 2015.
