PDP Cautions Akeredolu Against Creation of LCDAs in Ondo
Following alleged proposal for the creation of Local Council Development Areas out of 18 local government of Ondo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday cautioned the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu against the move, in order not to cause confusion in the state.
The party said it was aware of an alleged plan by the new governor to embark on the exercise in order to appoint members of the All Progressives Congress to control them .
The party, through the Director of Publicity of the PDP, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, also alleged that the APC-led state government had a plan to starve the existing local councils control by the PDP of funds.
Fadaka further said creation of LCDAs would only cause unnecessary tension in the state.
According to the party, ” If they think they want to create LCDAs because those that currently control the local government in the state today are members of the PDP, we must tell them that they are really preparing for a serious discord in our state.
“If it has been that a single party that controls the local and state governments, it would be understanding that what the state government is doing is in furtherance of effective administration. But what they are hoping to do is to design a way to undermine the current local government chairmen and destroy the local government system and create tension for no reason.
” The PDP as a party is totally against the creation of LCDAs, in the state that they were created, the LCDAs are yet to be recognized by the constitution of this country. ”
While reacting to the allegation , the Vice Chairman of the APC in the state ,Engr. Ade Adetimehin said that PDP was only insinuating wrongly.
Adetimehin who said the government had no plan to create LCDAs at the moment. He noted that the thinking of the new government was how to move the state forward.
His word : ” I don’t know where the PDP got their information from, creating LCDAs is not a small process and it is not in our plan for now. We just took over the government what we are doing now is how to move the state forward. The PDP are just raising unnecessary alarm.
