Pacquiao insists on Mayweather rematch

Manny Pacquiao refused to rule out a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jnr after he outclassed Jessie Vargas to win the WBO welterweight title in the early hours of yesterday.
The Filipino puncher claimed a unanimous decision over the American at the Thomas and Mack Centre in Las Vegas.
Mayweather, who retired after his win over Andre Berto in September 2015, watched from ringside among a crowd of around 16,000 at the University of Nevada venue.
The former pound-for-pound king is rarely seen at boxing unless it is a fighter from his Mayweather Promotions stable in action.
But Mayweather, who earned a comfortable points win when he faced Pacquiao in boxing’s richest bout last year, was there as a guest of his rival.
After his win over Vargas, Pacquiao was asked if he wanted to face Mayweather again and he said: “I invited him to come tonight. We will see.”
Mayweather gave Pacquiao a thumbs up from his front-row seat as the new WBO champion celebrated and when asked what he thought of the win, he said: “Not bad.”
The pair’s meeting in May 2015 broke numerous records in the sport including gate receipts and pay-per-view buys.
It was believed the bout made up to £350 million and although many were disappointed with the fight as Mayweather cutely out-boxed his foe with little fuss, a rematch would generate another fortune.
Mayweather has already said he is “open” to a return to the sport and confirmed he has been back training in his gym just off the Strip in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao returned from his own retirement seven months after his win over Timothy Bradley.
