OYSIEC Releases Timetable For Oyo LG Polls

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has fixed Saturday, May 12, 2018 as the new date to conduct elections into local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The chairman of the Commission, Mr. Jide Ajeigbe who revealed this at a press briefing in Ibadan on Friday, said newly registered political parties will be accommodated.

According to him, the elections will be conducted into the 33 local government areas and 35 LCDA’s

It would be recalled that the election had been fixed for February 11, 2017 before it was suspended following a lawsuit by some community heads.

The suit was withdrawn in December 2017.

The elections could not hold as fixed in February 2017 following an Abuja Federal High Court order instituted by some traditional rulers and community heads over contentious issues in of the newly created LCDAs.

The baales agreed to withdraw the case in December 2017 and the government got the go-ahead to conduct the elections.
