Oyo Police Bans Fireworks During Yuletide
The Oyo State Police Command has warned residents against use of explosive fireworks during the yuletide in state, saying such wild celebration could jeopardize security arrangements they have put in place to ensure hitch free celebration.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police in a statement he issued in Ibadan on Sunday said explosives such as banger, etc, during the festive season have been banned.
According to him, it is envisaged that citizens especially children would celebrate using explosive fireworks, saying “we cannot, and do not intend to stop merrymaking children and others from expressing their joy during this festive season, it is good they were reminded that the police have a statutory duty to maintain law and order.”
He added that any act capable of undermining peace and security in the state will not be condoned.
The police image maker said the Command warned citizens against use of such fireworks because of their security implications.
Ajisebutu said such explosives were capable of causing fire incident, damage to valuable property and injury to persons or even loss of precious lives.
He said the Command had concluded plans to clamp down on the merchants and users of the explosive, adding that policemen, either in uniform or plainclothes, have been directed to embark on arrest and prosecution of offenders.
