Oyo Mulls Education Marshals To Tackle Problem Of Indiscipline In Schools
The Oyo State Government has said it is considering setting up Education Monitoring Marshalls in the state to tackle increased immoral behaviour and act of wandering around during school hours among students in Oyo State.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Ibadan during the presentation of book list for 2017 – 2020 academic programs for schools in the state, assured that the policy will help in raising disciplined school children.
He said tax force will be assigned to arrest and discipline students wandering out of school premises in order to change their attitude towards learning.
Olowofela noted that lack of discipline of the students had made many of them to be wayward and engage in devilish acts capable of promoting moral decadence in the society.
Speaking on the new list of books, the commissioner said as schools in the state resume for the new academic session by September 18, there are agitations for required books from different sections.
According to him, the list of books will be available for free for the students, adding that what is important is the contents of the books.
Olowofela noted that the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is determined to reposition and restructure education in the state.
“The recommendations of the 31-member committee birthed School Governing Board, SGB initiative, ‘No Automatic Promotion’ among other policies on education, have repositioned education in the state.
“The state government is also sanitising the system by removing from service, those that are working with fake results and the intention is to have an efficient workforce”, the commissioner said.
Corroborating him, the acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Ariyike Adekanmbi said that the use of the list of books is sacrosanct because it is tailored with the curriculum that is used to set examinations.
She encouraged the Local Inspector of Education, (LIEs) to monitor the compliance of all schools to conform to the state government’s directives on education.
