Oyo Calls On Developers To Obtain Building Certificates Of Completion

The Oyo State Government has called on both private and public developers in the State to always obtain certificate of completion for their properties before occupying them.

The Director-General, Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control, Tpl Waheed Gbadamosi said in Ibadan on Tuesday that the government is taking proactive steps to guide against building collapse in the state.

Tpl Gbadamosi explained that the certificate is the last stage of approval given to developers in the state, saying that the certificate will confirm the compliance of the structure with the requirements stipulated in the building plan.

The DG stated that the State planning laws require developers to obtain certificate of compliance for every stage of their construction which will show whether they comply or deviate from the approval given to them.

Gbadamosi said “it is imperative for the people of the state to be compliant with the necessary planning laws and building instructions so as to avert any danger. This will also ascertain the quality assurance of the construction.

He stressed that at least a copy of the Approved Plan with all approval stamps must always be on the site during construction, noting that contravention or demolition notice would be served on such properties without approval on sites.

The DG said that failure of developers to obtain the certificate of completion before occupying the building will lead to monetary fine by the Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control.
