Ekiti Road Death Trap, Monarch Tells Oyebanji
A former chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, has urged the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to take decisive action on the repair of the failed portion on Ado Ekiti – Ilawe Ekiti Road.
Alabi said that apart from the threat to lives that the road portion that caved in since about four months posed to lives, “it has brought untold hardship and agony to the people of the town and all motorists plying the route”.
The traditional ruler, who praised the state government for embarking on repair of a failed drainage in another part of the road, urged the government “to direct the site contractor to immediately commence work on the big gulf which has become a death trap”.
According to a press statement on Tuesday by his media adviser, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi, the monarch spoke in Ilawe Ekiti on Monday during a dinner that he organised for eminent indigenes of the town.
Oba Alabi said that he had implicit confidence in the governor, Oyebanji, that he would take urgent action on the road.
The traditional ruler urged Nigerian politicians to avoid resorting to use of thugs before and during the 2023 general elections as he advised those in his domain to stop unwarranted infighting, saying such would not benefit anyone.
He lauded Ilawe people for their cooperation and urged them to “continue the good work in the incoming year. I congratulate our people for witnessing this year’s Christmas and wish all a happy and prosperous 2023”.
Eminent indigenes at the occasion included chiefs, politicians, youth leaders, opinion leaders and various leaders of social organisations, among others.
