Osun Government Appoints Makinde As Owa Of Igbajo

Osun State Executive Council has approved the appointment of Prince Ademola Stephen Makinde as the new Owa of Igbajo in Boluwaduro Local Government of Osun state.
The appointment which was contained in a release made available to newsmen by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi yesterday stated that the approval was in line with due process, chieftaincy law and tradition.
But the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun said that the appointment of another Owa in place of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, when Famodun who was legally installed by the immediate past administration, according to the law, tradition and custom of the people of Igbajo, is still very much in place, is a nullity which cannot withstand the legal fireworks in the court of law.
APC in a statement by its Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal,and made available by the Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi stated that it was unfortunate and worrisome the rate at which Adeleke has been desecrating the obaship institution with impunity in the state.
While reiterating his confidence in the judiciary to deal decisively with the issue, Lawal explained that if the governor thinks that he can usurp the roles of the judiciary, he is making a very big mistake.
However, Alimi in his statement said the kingmakers had earlier approved Dr Makinde in line with chieftaincy laws and tradition adding that Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Executive Meeting where the approval was granted congratulated the new Owa and tasked him to heal the wounds of the selection process by ensuring inclusive traditional governance.
Recall that Oba Adegboyega Famodun, the immediate past chairman of the APC in the state who was directed to vacate the throne through an executive order by Governor Ademola Adeleke on assumption of duty was pronounced removed in a subsequent white paper that directed fresh selection process.
