Our Leaders Are Selfish – Sanusi
The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged political leaders in the country to provide selfless service and good governance to the people.
Going by his words “The bane of leadership in Nigeria is that the leaders are selfish; they only think of their families.’
Sanusi made the call on Wednesday in Abuja at the award presentation ceremony of ‘Most Security Conscious Governor’ to Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi by the Nigeria Police Force.
He said that most leaders in the country only thought about themselves and their families. “Those of us who think that public office is a place to enjoy ourselves should think again.
The Emir attributed the security challenges being experienced in the country to poverty and lack of education, among other factors.
“Poverty, lack of education is violence; it breeds violence because many segments of the society are denied access to basic amenities, “he said.
He urged people in position of authority to prioritise the needs of their people, adding that the lack of allocation of resources had impacted negatively on infrastructure development.
Sanusi also urged the Federal Government to tackle other forms of security challenges, having recorded a huge success in tackling insurgency in the country. He said that security was a big challenge in the country, generally.
He said that any state that could not provide its citizens with adequate security was not fit to exist.
“Once a state cannot provide security, it is not fit to be a state,” he said. The Emir advised Gov. Bello to do more for the people of his state, as to whom much is given, much is expected.
