Osun West Senatorial Poll: Sheriff/ Makarfi And Others Unite To Tackle APC

The Makarfi and Sheriff factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and no fewer than eight other political parties have come together to tackle the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the July 8 Osun West Senatorial by-election in Osun state.
The two factions in Osun agreed to sheath their swords and support in consensus, the brother of late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, Dr Ademola Adeleke, as the PDP candidate for the July 8 Osun West Senatorial election.
At the party’s programme which was held to publicly bring the two groups together and formerly present the candidate to members in Iwo, elders and leaders of the party in the state took turns to speak on the rationale behind the re-union.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of PDP in the State, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, said the party will emerge victorious at the July 8 by-election, saying efforts were underway to bring all the aggrieved members of the party back before the 2018 governorship election.
Adagunodo, who extolled the virtues of late Senator Adeleke, noted that all the parties came together in appreciation of what Adekeke stood for to support his brother.
Another factional team leader, Senator Iyiola Omisore, called on leaders to go to their units and wards to preach unity and ensure that wounds are healed to ensure resounding victory.
His words: “Osun west is very important to everyone of us, that’s why we decided to come together and honour the memory of our late senator.”
A BoT member and Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, lauded the process which brought about the accord and enjoined every member to go out and canvass for the party’s candidate.
Oyedokun, who was excited about the turnout of members of the party said what they saw in the late Adeleke’s brother gives them the conviction that he would perform as well as his late brother.
It would be recalled that the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke defected to the APC from the PDP in 2014 following a crisis which ensued during the build up to the party’s governorship primary election.
In his remarks, Otunba Ademola Adeleke appreciated the party leadership for accepting him with open minds, saying he is overwhelmed by their show of support towards him.
He said “I promise not to disappoint you. I’ll continue the philanthropic legacy of my late elder brother, whose main worry was how to better the lives of the masses.
” To kick start, I have rolled out scholarship of two hundred and fifty million naira for the youths of Osun west senatorial district, but, you must all go out and vote for PDP in the state”

“I have been in politics since 1991. My late father and brother also taught me a lot, especially to be good to people, which is what I’ve always been doing and will continue to do” he stated.

Adeleke expressed optimism that he would emerge victorious in the coming election, saying it is time for the people of the district and Osun State as a whole to liberate themselves from the APC-led government in the state.
