Osun CJ Releases 13 Inmates From Ile-Ife Correctional Centre

 

Respite came the way of 13 inmates of Nigeria Correctional Centre, Kosere, Ile-Ife, Osun State when Justice Adepele Ojo, the Chief Judge of Osun State, freed them.

Justice Ojo freed the inmates while leading the Administration of Criminal Law Justice Monitoring Committee to the centre on Thursday as part of measures to decongest the centre.

The CJ who charged the freed inmates to turn a new leave and sin no more noted that a total number of 19 awaiting trial inmates were presented to the committee out of which 13 were considered for release on compassionate ground by the committee.

According to her, three were released on health ground, two granted bail, while others were pardons because they have overstayed when compared to the number of years of the offence committed.

She said that others not released were granted an accelerated hearing.

The chief judge maintained that they had a duty as judicial officers to ensure the release of those worthy to be released and as well punish those deserved to be punished accordingly.
