Osun Baptist Convention Task Christians On Political Participation

Christians in Nigeria have been charged to participate pragmatically in politics to enhance good governance and avoid being marginalized.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo Friday as part of programmes for the 25th Osun Baptist Conference, the President, Dr. Paul Oladapo Kolawole also enjoined Christians to go out in large numbers to elect their preferred candidates when there is call for it.

According to him, the era of leave them and let them do whatever they like is over adding that Christians should go for elective post and not wait until they go cap in hand begging for appointments.

The one-week long event with the theme: “Moving Forward: Celebrating God’s Goodness Through Praise and Pragmatic Political Participation” will feature the 26th session of the conference that would be hosted by Ifeoluwa Baptist Association, Ile-Ife.

The conference according to him will also feature the ordination of 22 pastors, book launch, rallies, evangelism while the grand finale slated for 22nd of August will be presided over by Baptist Convention President, Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle.

Speaking on the activities of Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr. Kolawole said the body has the responsibility of speaking the truth adding that the Baptist Convention stands for the truth and the church cannot but withdraw from the activities of CAN when truth is compromised.

He called on politicians to fulfill their electioneering campaign promises saying that every man will have give account of his stewardship before God on the day of judgement.
