Osinbajo To Flag Off Lagos To Abeokuta Standard Gauge Next Week
Vice President Yemi Oshinbajo will on Wednesday next week flag off passenger train service from Iju in Lagos State to Abeokuta in Ogun State on the new Standard gauge train service pending completion of the Abeokuta to Ibadan axis of the project in June this year.
According to him, work on the Iju to Iddo axis will continue immediately after the flag off on Wednesday next week adding that after the flag off passengers will enjoy free train ride from Iju to Abeokuta for two months.
He disclosed that the train stations are still under construction while the communication equipment will soon be installed.
Amaechi was quite optimistic that work on the Abeokuta to Ibadan axis will be completed by June this year adding that civil work has already been completed awaiting the laying of tracks.
He noted that the only problem confronting the contractors is blasting of rocks, adding that work is ongoing to complete blasting of rocks on the routes.
The Minister pointed out that the federal government took a loan of $1.6billion from Exim Bank of China to execute the Lagos to Ibadan Standard gauge railway project.
Regarding concession of Nigerian Railway Corporation he disclosed that the signing of agreement will be concluded in South Africa next week.
