Oniru Advocates Strategic Partnership Between Traditional Institutions And Local Govts
The Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, has called for a strategic partnership between the traditional institutions and Local Governments in order to preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
The monarch spoke at a virtual leadership series organized by the Lagos State Office of Local Government Establishments and Training with the theme, “Preserving Cultural Heritage While Driving Modern Governance: The Strategic Role of Traditional Rulers and Local Governments in Sustainable Community Development.”
Oba Lawal also advanced inclusive growth, effective governance and sustainable community development.
Drawing on the historical evolution of Lagos State, the complementary roles of traditional rulers, Local Governments and practical examples from the transformation of the Iru Kingdom, the Oniru noted that sustainable development is best achieved through collaboration, citizen participation and shared leadership.
He also stressed the importance of effective policy implementation, stakeholders’ engagement, leadership development, continuous training, organisational productivity, wellness and alignment with the State Government’s THEMES+ agenda.
The monarch urged participants to embrace innovation while remaining rooted in the cultural values that strengthen community identity and social cohesion.
He pointed out that traditional institutions and Local Governments are complementary partners whose collective efforts are essential to build resilient communities, strengthen grassroots governance and secure a prosperous future for Lagos State.
