Ondo State House Of Assembly Deputy Speaker Impeached

Ondo State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ogundeji Iroju was on Tuesday impeached on the  floor of the House during plenary session.

The embattled lawmaker was removed from office after 18 of the 26 legislators in the State Assembly voted in favour of his impeachment.

The reason for the impeachment was attributed to high handedness, incompetence, lack of respect for the office of the Speaker.

They also said Iroju, who represents Odigbo local government constituency lack proper accountability as the person in charge of the finances of the House.

The motion for his impeachment was moved by Hon. Fatai Olotu and seconded by Hon.Malachi Coker, while the nomination of the new Deputy Speaker was moved by Hon. Sunday Olajide and seconded by Hon. Princess Jumoke Akindele.

According to Hon. Olotu while moving the motion for the impeachment, Iroju was impeached for “being at loggerheads with the Speaker.”

He was immediately replaced with Hon. Bimbo Fajolu of Ile-oluji/Oke-Igbo constituency, who was sworn-in by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oloyeloogun

The House also used the medium to pass vote of confidence in the Speaker ,Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun.

The plenary was attended by 22 out of the 26 members of the Assembly.
