Ondo, Prisons Authorities To Partner On Agric Development
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has expressed the readiness of his administration to collaborate with the state command of the Nigeria Prisons to develop agriculture in the state.
The governor who spoke in Akure, when the staff of Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Prisons Service led by the Controller Mr. Suanu Kinane visited him in his office said the collaboration would assist in efforts aimed at bringing back the glorious old days when staple foods were available in every household.
According to the governor, his administration’s agenda was agriculture development, saying his administration was committed to supporting every effort aimed at encouraging the growth of the sector.
Akeredolu hailed the collaboration sought by the prisons command as a laudable innovation.
He expressed hope that the collaboration would contribute to the efforts aimed bringing back the agricultural revolution in the state.
The governor, however, acceded to the request by the prisons authorities for a building to be used as their administrative office.
Akeredolu challenged the prisons authorities to expand their facilities, even as he condemned what he described as unnecessary detention of suspects.
Earlier, the state controller, Suanu Kinane said the command was interested to partner with the governor in the realisation of his administration’s agenda.
According to him, “The command remains accessible to you particularly in the area of agriculture and entrepreneurship as we as willing to supply to supply a reasonable level of manpower from the pool of our convicted males who indeed have few months to discharge.
“This will undoubtedly reduce cost in terms of overhead and on their other hand symbiotically expose the inmate to new farming techniques, boost their earning scheme policy and assist in their re-integration and entrepreneurship component.”
