Ogun Police Parade Murder Suspect, Others
The Ogun State Police command on Monday paraded a murder suspect, Olatubosun Tunde, an automobile dealer for allegedly shooting one Razaq, a truck motor boy to death at a car wash in Leme area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital last week.
Olatunbosun, who was paraded alongside other suspects whose crimes ranged from armed robbery to impersonation, was arrested on May 4, according to the commissioner of Police Ahmed Ilyasu, following a manhunt by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, who had traced l the suspect to Togo where he had fled.
The suspect who donned military camouflage and jungle boots, was paraded with seven pairs of different vehicle number plates, one pump action rifle with serial number 15-0083, forty three cartridges and one camouflage cap.
Fielding questions from reporters, the suspect claimed that he shot the motor boy by accident.
According to him, he had ordered the truck boy to move the tanker which obstructed his vehicle at the car wash after which hot argument ensued between them.
He narrated further that he had actually brought out his pump action rifle, which he claimed was licensed, to deflate the tyres of the truck when the deceased started to wrest the gun from his grip adding it was in the melee the rifle fired and hit the victim in the chest.
The suspect, however, denied escaping to Togo after the incident saying police arrested him at the Camp area of Abeokuta, on his way to surrender himself at the Ogun state police headquarters in Eleweran.
He also claimed that the number plates found in his possession were being used to transport vehicles from Cotonuo to Nigeria.
On the military camouflage, the father of three said though he was a member of the disbanded Merchant Navy, he denied being owner of military uniform saying it was only the shorts he wore on the day of the incident that belonged to him.
But the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while briefing journalists earlier said Olatubosun known as ‘Soldier’ was a suspected leader of a notorious armed gang that was terrorising Abeokuta and its environs.
He alleged the gang was into snatching of vehicles, kidnapping and impersonating as military officers to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.
Other suspects paraded were the duo of Yussuf Mustafa and Lekan Lukman, arrested for armed robbery, while one locally made single barrel cut-to-size gun and three live cartridges were recovered from them.
In the same vein, Friday Ekepe and Friday Okeifi, 27 and 24 years respectively, nabbed for armed robbery, were paraded, while one Bajaj Boxer motorcycle and Toyota Highlander, were recovered from them.
